What is lent all about?

Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, this year falling on February 22nd. Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. Lent is marked by fasting, both from food and festivities.

But it isn’t always about giving something up. In more recent years it has been suggested that we actually take something up! For example how about signing up to ‘40 acts of kindness’ – for more information have a look at this website – 40acts – The 40-day Lent Generosity Challenge from Stewardship
