Having already made a lot of major improvements to the Evelyn Hall, we are now hoping to embark on the final (and most ambitious) stage.

The Hall Management Committee has been looking into how we can improve the toilets and storage areas. As a result we have commissioned and obtained architectural drawings for a replacement amenity block to be constructed in a similar style and using similar materials to the Hall . In making these plans, we are responding to the wishes of many of the current Hall users. The suggested new building would be slightly bigger than the current wing and, if our plans come to fruition, the project would achieve:

  • An improved and more attractive resource for the community
  • Disabled access and facilities
  • A visually and aesthetically improved property (particularly when the garden is being used, as it often is for parties, weddings, etc.)
  • Up to date toilet facilities
  • Extra storage space

We have asked local builders to tender for this project and received a number of estimates, so we have a much better idea of likely costs, which would be in the region of £100,000. We have also had a site consultation with Mole Valley Planning Department, who can see no objection While we would be expected to do some local appeals and fundraising ourselves, we were in the process of applying for Council building grants to provide the major funding with a view to work being done next summer. However, we have just been told that, because of Government cutbacks, these grants are no longer available.

This is a disappointing setback. However, we have not given up yet, and the Committee is meeting again in September to see whether we can find another major funding source. We may still go ahead with our original proposal to have an Open Day at the Hall sometime in the autumn to exhibit the plans, and hear your views. In any case , we will keep you informed of our progress. In the meantime the Evelyn Hall Management Committee would welcome any thoughts or suggestions on this project, including on fundraising.
