Abinger Activities through the Year

As well as the
Abinger Fair
there are a number of regular events, which have the dual function of being great fun and raising money for local charities. See the
Village Diary
for forthcoming events.
The
Abinger Tennis Tournament
takes place on an idyllic summer's day, when people fortunate enough to have a tennis court invite a motley crowd of friends who know one end of a tennis racket from another to play some friendly tennis and enjoy lunch in the garden. Finals (accompanied by afternoon tea) always take place at Oliver and Nicola Ellingham's. Organiser: Oliver Ellingham (tel: 01306 730636).
The
Progressive Supper
is usually a winter event. The aim is that everyone in the village should participate, as you don't even need to hold a tennis racket for this one. You have a starter at one house, move to another for main course and end up at a third venue for dessert. If you want to demonstrate your culinary skills there is plenty of opportunity to do so as well. Organisers: Rachel Morgan (tel: 01306 731506) leads the team of organisers.
Themed evenings at the Evelyn Hall
take place regularly. In the past year or so there have been sausage and mash suppers, sing-along Sound of Music, Grease and Mama Mia, a Bollywood evening, wine-tasting, Chinese New Year evening, quizzes, Christmas soirees and many more. There are also plans to possibly start a film club. Most of these events are organised by the Evelyn Hall Committee. Contact: Terry and Pat O'Brien (tel: 01306 730818)
